Reverse engineering legacy parts
Digitize undocumented or discontinued components and rebuild them as editable STEP CAD — ready to redesign, re-tool or reproduce when no drawing exists.
[ 01 / The process ]
Structured-light 3D scanning projects a pattern of light across an object and reads the deformation with calibrated cameras, reconstructing millions of surface points into a dense mesh — accurate to as fine as 0.04 mm, with full-colour texture when you need it. It captures geometry no caliper can reach: freeform curves, organic surfaces, worn features and complex internal transitions on parts you cannot easily measure by hand.
At MYPRUS we treat scanning as an engineering step, not a snapshot. Every scan is cleaned, aligned and checked before it leaves the studio, and where you need to edit or manufacture the part we reverse-engineer the mesh into a true parametric STEP solid — not a frozen shell. You tell us whether the endpoint is a mesh for reference, a CAD model for redesign, or a deviation comparison for inspection, and we deliver measured data you can build on.
[ 02 / What we make ]
Digitize undocumented or discontinued components and rebuild them as editable STEP CAD — ready to redesign, re-tool or reproduce when no drawing exists.
Compare a scanned part against its original CAD to map dimensional deviation across the whole surface, catching warp and wear a spot-check would miss.
Bring sculpted, ergonomic or freeform shapes into CAD accurately — the surfaces that are impractical to model from scratch or measure by hand.
Verify how mating parts seat together before manufacture, and preserve artefacts, tooling and one-off objects as a permanent, colour-accurate digital record.
[ 03 / Why MYPRUS ]
Raw scans are denoised, multi-view aligned and hole-filled into a usable mesh — for parts up to roughly a metre, larger objects stitched via multi-scan alignment.
We rebuild the scan as a parametric STEP solid with editable features, so the model can be modified and manufactured — not just a triangulated surface.
Reference mesh, editable CAD, or scan-to-CAD inspection report — we scope the deliverable to what you actually do next, and advise the right route up front.
Most scans deliver in 2–4 days — a reference mesh, an editable STEP solid or a deviation report, scoped to the part and turned around without a long queue.
[ 04 / Output ]
Not sure which output fits your workflow? Tell us what you do next — reference, redesign or inspection — and we'll scope the right deliverable; see indicative rates and turnaround on the Specs & Pricing page.
Cleaned, hole-filled mesh for reference, 3D printing or as-is documentation — see the Specs & Pricing page for rates.
Reverse-engineered editable solid with features, ready to redesign or manufacture — scoped per part, see Specs & Pricing.
Full-colour, textured mesh for heritage, art and visual records where surface appearance matters — see Specs & Pricing for options.
Scan-to-CAD comparison mapping dimensional deviation across the part for QC — rates and scope on the Specs & Pricing page.
[ 05 / Questions ]
Scanning is priced by object size and complexity, the cleanup required, and the deliverable — a reference mesh costs less than a full reverse-engineered STEP solid or an inspection report. Send us the part details for an itemised quote; indicative rates and turnaround are published on our Specs & Pricing page.
An STL is a triangulated surface — accurate for reference, printing or documentation, but not easily edited. A STEP solid is reverse-engineered from the scan into true parametric CAD with editable features, which is what you need to redesign, modify or manufacture the part.
Our structured-light process captures fine surface detail to as tight as 0.04 mm, depending on part size and geometry. This is an engineering scanner producing engineering meshes and models — accurate for reverse engineering and inspection, but not a certified metrology or medical device.
We scan handheld parts up to roughly one metre directly, and cover larger objects by aligning multiple scans into a single model. Full-colour texture capture is available when surface appearance matters, delivered as a textured OBJ.
Yes. We're based in Kozhikode (Calicut), Kerala, and deliver scan data and CAD files digitally anywhere in India, with physical parts couriered pan-India. Local customers are welcome to bring objects to the studio for scanning.
Send an STL/STEP or a photo and we'll reply within 24 hours with a measured quote and a free design-for-manufacturing check.
